XIX (July Limited Blend)

The art on this bag is the work of our very own Ben Ezra, drawing inspiration from creations from past bags, new life changes, and sprinkled with hidden gems as we begin another trip around the sun in the year of the fire horse! For the background, there is a scene of nature taking over the cityscape, both underwater and up in the clouds, with small fish similar to Ben's drawings for a Nicaraguan coffee in the early DMC days, and another Nic nod with a "Summer Santa" on the bottom of the bag, giving off Christmas in July vibes! The fire horse is drawn in the style of the cute unicorns on our old UB bags, with a baby holding a liberty torch, not only celebrating America's birthday, but an ode to Ben's new little one too. 

There are many predictions for what the year of the Fire Horse will bring, with some experts saying we can expect intense, fast-paced change, on both an individual and global level. With that we are excited to share more about a new relationship we are forming in Mexico with a family in Chiapas! This January we made the trip to visit Finca Nuevo Mexico, a farm located near the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, deep in the mountains of southern Mexico to meet two brothers, Ricardo and Carlos, who recently took over their family farm. Their father operated the farm for many years, visiting other producers and mills in Guatemala to learn their techniques and create an efficient mill for processing coffee, utilziing the nearby river to move coffee cherries with water on a terraced plot of land. 

We paired this newly landed Mexican coffee with a fresh harvest washed Catuai from Nicaragua. Both coffees bring sweetness to the party, with a touch of citrus and spice. This is a light, approachable blend that is clean and easy drinking when brewed hot, and crisp and refreshing as a coffee cold.
